Our History

1948

THE GREAT-WEST LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY

Great-West Life opens a Cincinnati office at Fourth and Walnut. Jack Horan, who had been selling furniture to the firm, is invited to join their business. That year, he began helping families protect their future — laying the groundwork for what would become HORAN.

1951

THE GREAT-WEST LIFE EASTERN REGIONAL CONVENTION

Jack and his wife, Elaine, attend the regional convention at The Greenbrier. Jack is one of only six representatives from Ohio to qualify, a recognition of early excellence that would shape the firm’s reputation.

1963

EXPANDED SERVICES

Great-West Life enters the 403(b) retirement market, adding annuities alongside life and group insurance. This broadened the tools available to support educators, nonprofits, and community professionals in planning for the future.

1973

TERRY JOINS THE FIRM

Terry Horan steps into the business, bringing a vision to build a strong team across health, wealth, and life. His leadership begins a new chapter for both the family and the clients they serve.

1981

HORAN ASSOCIATES INCORPORATES

The firm incorporates as HORAN Associates, Inc., expanding its team and reach. This milestone provided a stronger foundation to serve clients for decades to come.

1990

HORAN OPENS OFFICE IN KENWOOD

HORAN Associates moves from downtown Cincinnati to Kenwood, Ohio. The new location offers more space for a growing team and easier access for clients.

1996

HORAN SECURITIES INC. ESTABLISHED

HORAN Securities, Inc. is formed to expand retirement planning services, offering clients a broader range of wealth management products and solutions.

2006

NEW CORPORATE OFFICE ESTABLISHED

HORAN relocates its corporate offices to East Galbraith Road in Cincinnati to support a growing staff. That same year, the firm rebrands simply as HORAN, reflecting its evolution and unified identity.

2014

HORAN OPENS NORTHERN KENTUCKY OFFICE

After decades of serving clients across Kentucky, HORAN opens a dedicated office in Fort Mitchell, providing a local presence for long-standing relationships.

2022

HORAN Moves To Current Office

HORAN returns to the Towers of Kenwood with revitalized offices to better serve our customers.

2023

A LEGACY OF SERVICE. A FUTURE OF PROMISE

HORAN Wealth celebrates 75 years of serving families, businesses, and investors. The firm continues its role as an independent, trusted advisor—one of the largest Cincinnati-based firms—providing guidance in retirement planning, wealth management, and life insurance for estate and business needs.

HORAN FOCUSES ON WEALTH

HORAN Wealth OPENS Pittsburgh Office

HORAN Wealth continues its strategic expansion with the opening of a new office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Led by Michael L. Hermes, CFA®, CPWA®, CFP®, CEPA®, NSSA®, Market President, Wealth Advisor, supported by a team of specialists in investment counsel, financial planning, insurance, retirement, and business services.
