Driven by Purpose

“To relentlessly pursue an abundant and productive life for our clients.”

Since 1948, HORAN Wealth has served as a trusted advisor, providing memorable service, support, and partnership in wealth management, retirement plan consulting, financial planning, and life insurance for estate and business planning.

Our Culture Drives Our Differences

We achieve incredible client loyalty and recommendations because we roll up our sleeves, walk the talk, and do whatever it takes to provide our clients with the highest level of service and expertise.

For over 75 years, this legendary service has been our reputation, our standard, and an integral part of our culture. Through all these years, we've been guided by five core values: integrity, commitment, accountability, corporate social responsibility, and innovation.

We empower our culture to serve at the highest levels through the 27 Fundamentals that describe how we live those values each and every day. We call it THE HORAN WAY. They are the daily habits that ensure you receive meticulous attention, proactive guidance, and an exceptional experience.

HORAN Fundamental #1

Do What’s Best for the Client

In all situations, do what’s best for the client, even if it’s to our own short-term detriment. There’s no greater way to build a reputation than to steadfastly do what’s right for others—every day.

HORAN Fundamental #2

Do the Right Thing, Always

Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing in every action you take and in every decision you make, especially when no one’s looking. Always tell the truth, no matter the consequences. If you make a mistake, own up to it, apologize, and make it right. Be impeccable with your word.

HORAN Fundamental #3

Make Quality Personal

Demonstrate a passion for excellence and take pride in the quality of everything you touch and everything you do. Have a healthy disdain for mediocrity. Good is not good enough. Always ask yourself, “Is this my best work?”

HORAN Fundamental #4

Deliver Legendary Service

Do the little things, as well as the big things, that delight our clients. Create extraordinary experiences they’ll tell others about. Mere client satisfaction is for lesser companies. Create client loyalty by doing the unexpected.

HORAN Fundamental #5

Find a Way

Take personal responsibility for solving problems and making things happen – somehow, someway. Take ownership and respond to every situation by looking for how we can do it, rather than explaining why it can’t be done. Work with a sense of urgency. Be resourceful and show initiative.

HORAN Fundamental #6

Honor Commitments

There’s no better way to earn people’s trust than to be true to your word. Do what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it. This includes being on time for all phone calls, appointments, meetings, and promises. If a commitment can’t be fulfilled, notify others early and agree on a new timeframe to be honored.

HORAN Fundamental #7

Practice Blamesless Problem-Solving

Just fix it. Apply your creativity and enthusiasm to developing solutions, rather than pointing fingers or dwelling on problems. Identify lessons learned and use those lessons to improve ourselves and our processes so we don’t make the same mistake twice. Learn from every experience.

HORAN Fundamental #8

Get Clear on Expectations

Create clarity and avoid misunderstandings by discussing expectations upfront. Set expectations for others and ask when you’re not clear on what they expect of you. Ask the extra question.

HORAN Fundamental #9

Be a Fanatic About Response Time

People expect us to respond to their questions and concerns quickly, whether it’s in person, on the phone, or by e-mail. This includes simply acknowledging that we got the question and we’re “on it,” as well as keeping those involved continuously updated on the status of outstanding issues. Rapid response is one of the easiest and best ways to stand out from the crowd.

HORAN Fundamental #10

Check the Ego at the Door

It’s not about you. Don’t let your ego get in the way of doing what’s best for the team. Worrying about who gets credit or taking things personally is counterproductive. Make sure every decision is based solely on advancing team goals and doing what’s best for the client.

HORAN Fundamental #11

Go the Extra Mile

Be willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish the job... plus a little bit more. Whether it’s starting early, staying late, or doing something that’s not in your job description, it’s the extra mile that separates the ordinary from the extraordinary.

HORAN Fundamental #12

Listen Generously

Listening is more than simply “not speaking.” Give others your undivided attention. Be present and engaged. Quiet the noise in your head and let go of the need to agree or disagree. Suspend your judgment and be curious to know more, rather than jumping to conclusions. Above all, listen to understand.

HORAN Fundamental #13

Speak Straight

Speak honestly in a way that helps to make progress. Say what you mean, and be willing to ask questions, share ideas, or raise issues that may cause conflict when it’s necessary for team success. Address issues directly with those who are involved or affected.

HORAN Fundamental #17

Be Relentless About Improvement

Find ways to get things done better, faster, and more efficiently. Don’t be satisfied with the status quo. Be a lifetime learner. Take responsibility for your career by seeking out and taking advantage of every opportunity to gain more knowledge, to increase your skills, and to become a greater expert.

HORAN Fundamental #15

Collaborate

Work together. Collaborate internally and with our clients and partners to find better solutions. Be open to new ideas and different approaches. Use all our available resources.

HORAN Fundamental #16

Be Positive

You have the power to choose your attitude. Choose to be joyful, optimistic, and passionate about what you do. Your attitude is contagious. Spread optimism and positive energy.

HORAN Fundamental #17

Communicate to be Understood

Know your audience. Write and speak in a way that they can understand. Avoid using internal lingo, acronyms, and industry jargon. Use the simplest possible explanations.

HORAN Fundamental #18

Be Curious

In the search for the best solutions, challenge and question what you don’t understand. Don’t accept anything at “face value” if it doesn’t make sense to you. Be curious, ask thoughtful questions, and listen intently to the answers. Be more interested in asking and listening than in speaking. Seek to understand.

HORAN Fundamental #19

Invest in Relationships

Everything we do is built on trust and trust is built on relationships. Make smart decisions that enhance long-term relationships. Be fair with clients and carriers. Strong relationships enable us to more successfully work through difficult issues and challenging times.

HORAN Fundamental #20

When in Doubt, Communicate Personally

When delivering difficult or complex messages, or in emotionally charged situations, err on the side of speaking “live” versus using e-mail or voicemail. Where appropriate, follow-up in writing to confirm your understanding.

HORAN Fundamental #21

Use Date To Make Decisions

Own your numbers. Analyze the data and use this information to make better decisions, track your progress, and improve your performance. Without the data, we’re running blind.

HORAN Fundamental #22

Think and Act Like a Horan Owner

Make decisions by asking yourself, “What would I do if this were my company? What would I do if this were my own money? Will this help the company to succeed?”

HORAN Fundamental #23

Embrace Growth

What got us here is not the same as what will get us to the next level. Get outside your comfort zone, rather than stubbornly hanging on to old ways of doing things. Growth provides us with unique opportunities for competitive advantage. Be excited by the possibilities that growth brings.

HORAN Fundamental #24

Celebrate Success

Recognizing people doing things right is more effective than pointing out when they do things wrong. Regularly extend meaningful acknowledgment and appreciation — in all directions throughout our organization.

HORAN Fundamental #25

Be a Brand Ambassador

We’re all responsible for, and benefit from, the HORAN image and reputation. Consider how your actions affect our collective reputation, and act in a way that brings honor to us all. This applies not only to clients, but centers of influence, insurance carriers, and the community at large.

HORAN Fundamental #26

Give Back. Pay it Forward

Regularly seek opportunities to assist those in need. Express genuine gratitude for the help you’ve been given by paying it forward and helping others. Be a servant leader and put the needs of others ahead of your own.

HORAN Fundamental #27

Keep Things Fun

While our passion for excellence is real, remember that the world has bigger problems than the daily challenges that make up our work. Stuff happens. Keep perspective. Don’t take things personally or take yourself too seriously. Laugh every day.
